Tarsus the Red

Crime in Nibarra is controlled by the Right People, the Right People are controlled by the Nine, and the Nine (if rumor can be believed) are controlled by Tarsus the Red. Whether the tiefling is as highly placed as that or not, what is certain is that Adinhold’s criminal element ultimately reports to him.

Little is known of Tarsus’s early life. Most stories told by his vassal thieves start with him as a young gang captain in Korren. He came to Adinhold during the Darnic invasion and, seeing a profit to be made, stayed through the city’s growth into the mercantile capital of the region. His modest income as a moderately successful importer was well-supplemented by his extra-legal income as a smuggler. It was this activity that brought him to the attention of the Nine.

Within a few short years, Tarsus was made the Master of Coin for the largest criminal empire the world had seen since the fall of the Taern Imperium (and, some said, a direct-line continuation of the Shingae from that time). As such, he was responsible for large-scale investment of the group’s coffers; Antivan slavery, smuggling of all manner of cargo, the building of brothels… all fell within his purview. At around the same time, a new member was raised to the Council of Merchants. Lord Arden Kain sits on the Council, with his closest advisor and friend, Tarsus the Red, ever at his elbow.
